Leviticus 25,8-17 mandates that a jubilee year is to be proclaimed every fifty years. The article studies the relationship between the jubilee year and the sabbatical year and the measures enacted by both. It addresses the debated question of whether the jubilee year was actually put into practice, as well as the influence this idea had on other biblical books. Although the social and economic situation of our societies is very different from that in which Leviticus was written, the Jubilee mandate continues to compel us today to think about social and ecological measures that may curve inequalities and call for the safeguarding of Creation.

Levítico 25,8-17 ordena que cada cincuenta años se ha de proclamar un año jubilar. El artículo estudia la relación entre el año jubilar y el año sabático y las medidas que ambas promulgan. Aborda la cuestión debatida de si el año jubilar se llevó realmente a la práctica, así como la influencia que ejerció esta idea en otros libros bíblicos. Aunque la situación social y económica de nuestras sociedades es muy distinta de aquella en la que se escribió el Levítico, mandato del jubileo sigue provocándonos hoy a pensar medidas sociales y ecológicas que limiten las desigualdades e insten a salvaguardar la integridad de la Creación.

Levitico 25,8-17 prevede che ogni cinquant’anni venga indetto un anno giubilare. L’articolo studia la relazione tra l’anno giubilare e l’anno sabbatico e le misure adottate da entrambi. Affronta la dibattuta questione se l’anno giubilare sia stato effettivamente messo in pratica, nonché l’influenza che questa idea ha avuto su altri libri biblici. Sebbene la situazione sociale ed economica delle nostre società sia molto diversa da quella in cui è stato scritto il Levitico, il mandato del Giubileo continua a provocare oggi a pensare a misure sociali ed ecologiche che possano limitare le disuguaglianze e a promuovere la salvaguardia del Creato.
